The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) was introduced by the Indian government in 2016 and is now in its sixth year of implementation. In terms of premiums, the system is the world’s third largest crop insurance scheme.
PMFBY is currently in use in 27 states and union territories. By providing comprehensive risk coverage from pre-sowing to post-harvest losses, the scheme aims to reach the largest number of farmers possible.
This PMFBY scheme formulated in one line theme i.e., One Nation–One Scheme by replacing earlier two schemes National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) and Modified National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (MNAIS).
